Anonymous asked: At the time of the Iceland profile at least, Iceland was in the middle of the huge economic crisis they went through, so it's quite likely it referred to that. (The great volcanic outburst didn't happen till much later. (2010ish i think))

Thank you! I couldn’t remember when that volcanic outburst was. 2010 seems to be correct.

Anonymous asked: What are these odd descriptions about the countries? For example: "Iceland recently caught a cold" Is it means when the volcano erupts, Iceland gets ill? "Finland's awesome strength at the scene of a fire isn’t half-assed" Was this about the winter war? "If Lithuania thinks a lot, he gets a stomachache" Why? "During the time of the Soviet Union, it was like waking up to a strange theme park being built" What does it means?

Since it was Himaruya who wrote them, I can’t say I entirely understand what he meant about some of them. There’s a lot of profiles that seem rather vague in places. These all refer to the 2nd web/vol 2 profiles which were published back in 2008.

The Iceland profile, as old as it is, I’m not sure if there was a specific volcanic eruption that’s being referred to or if it was something else like economic difficulties.

As for Finland’s profile, I really don’t know.

Lithuania’s profile explains “He’s pretty serious with a lot of patience, but he usually thinks too much, gets depressed and gives himself a stomachache.” which seems to me like a normal reaction of someone who worries too much (at least that’s my personal opinion).
I really don’t understand why he chose to compare the Soviet Union to a strange theme park. Though upon a quick Google search, apparently Lithuania actually has a sort of Soviet Union theme park which has been considered one of Europe’s strangest theme parks. There may be some relation, or maybe I’m grasping at straws, it’s hard to say without Himaruya to clarify and I’m no history major.

Anonymous asked: Is there a way to tell in which order did the non linear strips come out?

Currently no. I know Andy of Hetalia Archives had been trying to date them at one point, but it’s a very difficult and tedious process so I’m not sure where it stands at the moment.

Anonymous asked: I was wondering... how canon are all the drama, character and counting sheep cds? Do you have any idea if Hima wrote/supervised them? (sorry for the weird question)

To specify -

The drama tracks on the character CDs are all based on various strips written by Himaruya, save for the drama track on China’s CD, but the scenario was still written by Himaruya. They would be canon.

The drama CDs are also based on the strips or were written by Himaruya himself. These would also be canon. (Though I am uncertain about the bonus Gakuen Hetalia Portable/DS CDs as I don’t have much information on them and I’m not sure if they credit anyone.)

The Counting Sheep CDs are an odd branch of audio media. As far as I can see the first CD with Italy and Romano give Himaruya credit as one of the scenario writers, but none of the other CDs credit him for that. So I’m not sure how involved he was in their writing. It may be debatable, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he had some form of supervision with them.

I wish I had more info.

The drama tracks are adaptations of Himaruya’s work though, not Himaruya’s work itself?

I mean you can take them as canon if you wish, but being that most of them are altered quite significantly from the original strip, they actually contradict the webcomic canon so in a sense I’d imagine they’re either independent or part of the anime canon.

Basically like how it is with any adaptation; whether book to movie, manga to anime, manga to drama cd, etc.

Ahh yeah, you’re right. The first drama CDs and character CD dramas are adaptations, including, I believe, the first Interval CD with Prussia. But the other two Interval CDs, the Hetalia Fantasia CDs and the W Academy CDs are original content written by Himaruya. But then Hetalia Fantasia and W Academy are their own things of sorts too. It’s confusing.

I’d agree it may be better to think of them as separate canons. Thanks for adding on!

Strip of the Day 79: Summary of the War of Austrian Succession

■Summary of the War of Austrian Succession■

image

■Difficult Times■

A long time ago, in the 18th century,
there were two lovebirds
named Charles VI, Holy Roman emperor,
and Elisabeth-Christine of
Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel.

image

However, they were not blessed
with children and spent
many years worrying about this.

image

And then Maria Theresa of Austria
was born.
Afterwards, Christine gave birth
to two daughters, however,
her physical condition worsened after that
and they were never blessed
with children again.

Then Charles thought of making his
eldest daughter his successor.
Thus, started the long trials and hardships
between Austria and the House of Hapsburg.

renn-t asked: Ah- do you know who the artist is of the Hetalia Like WW1 Book? o3o

Well Himaruya definitely did the cover. The cover also credits him for 監修, like editorial supervision… but we’re not quite sure what the inside contents will be like until it’s released.
